Professor at Indian Institute of Technology

Bio-tech
Major Research Areas
Optical image processing and Biometric based recognition systems
Prof. Aloka Sinha obtained her M.Sc and PhD in Physics from IIT-Madras. Prof. Sinha works in the area of soft condensed matter physics and optical information processing. In the area of optical information processing, her work involves development of new techniques for recognition and encryption based on biometrics and optical systems. These techniques offer enhanced security features for next generation applications. The major part of her research work in the area of soft condensed matter physics involves characterization of liquid crystal systems using dielectric spectroscopy, various electro-optic measurements, characterization of liquid crystal nanocomposites by means of nanoparticle dispersion in liquid crystal media, design and fabrication of liquid crystal core waveguides and devices. Prof. Sinha is working in the field of liquid crystals and optical information processing for the past 22 years having approximately 47 papers in reputed international journals, 44 papers in conferences in India and abroad alongside with 2 granted international patents and 3 applied patents in the field of her expertise. She has collaborated earlier with the LCMRC, University of Colorado, USA on liquid crystals as a part of her BOYSCAST fellowship and with TU Darmstadt, Germany on liquid crystal based nanocomposites on a DAAD fellowship. Currently Dr. Sinha heads the Liquid Crystal and Biometric Research Laboratory at the Dept. of Physics, IIT Delhi.
